Mimi Tong (b. 1978)

HIAP project: to create a panoramic drawing mapping the Suomenlinna Island coastline. Informed by Eastern imaging of the landscape, the scroll format of Chinese landscape painting is widely known as an early moving image device that addresses framing and composition from multiple vantage points. The project extends on Tong’s interest in mapping architectural spaces through cultural experience. The act of travelling and exploring is at the core of her practice that involves experiencing and reflecting on local urban architecture and geography to consider how these are shaped by, represent and impact on social and cultural interactivity and personal identity.
