Suspended Disbelief

20 May – 19 June, Comics Center
Opening Wednesday May 20, 6–9 pm

After a few years of making work around family history, shooter games, war and love, Jana has decided to start working on a graphic novel. The way in which her childhood and the childhood of her great-grandmother intertwine, together with the computer games she played in the 90’s, provide the perfect starting point for the story. A handful of historical accuracy combined with the memories of a childhood imagination are the starting point for Suspended Disbelief. At the expo you will see her first approach to the subject in this form. All the works were made during the CUNE comics in residency at the HIAP residencies at Suomenlinna.

Jana Vasiljević (1990) was born in Belgrade in a belgo-serbian family and currently resides in Gent, Belgium, where she works as a freelance illustrator and comic artist. She is also a co-founder and editor at the Tieten Met Haar collective and small-press publishing house, with the aim to publish and promote works of other emerging artists in Belgium as well as abroad.

Jana Vasiljević’s residency in Helsinki has been organised by the Comics-in-Residence programme in collaboration with HIAP.
