Herbert Warmuth

“In my assembled, shaped pictures I combine a variety of modes of seeing and of making. Fragments from different realities are connected / conjoined to build a complex picture: different coloured fabrics – sometimes my own shirt -, painted colour fields, actual folds and seams of the fabric, painted illusionistic folds, relating to the forms of the picture, shadows…. It is a reconstruction of a kind of entire, whole, a patchwork identity. I want to cross borders, integrate fractures, cuts, contradictions. The relationship between the parts is vital. At the same time I am interested in the most simple and self-evident way to elaborate my idea of painting.”

Herbert Warmuth´s residency is organised within a pilot residency exchange programme between HIAP and Frankfurt am Main, Department of Culture and Science, supported by Kordelin Foundation.
