Yana Foqué

Yana Foqué is a Belgian curator, editor, and writer. Until recently, she was Executive Director & Chief Curator at Kunstverein, Amsterdam, where she shaped its experimental program and publishing arm. Her practice centers on institutional critique and maintenance art, exploring collaboration, authorship, and structures shaping art and historical writing. She embraces artists working beyond conventional formats, curating across exhibitions, publications, and social settings. Recent projects include G.B. Jones and Christopher D’Arcangelo. Currently in Helsinki, she is researching artists’ and institutions’ side jobs as part of a larger project supported by the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK).

During my HIAP residency, I will continue my research into the side jobs that sustain artistic and institutional practices—a reality often accepted as normal, but which points to a underlying structural failure. I’m interested in how this precarious condition shapes not just our working lives, but also feeds into public perception of culture itself. While in Helsinki, I’ll conduct interviews, gather case studies, and give a public event around this theme. This research is supported by the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK) and forms part of a broader inquiry.
