Valerio Di Lucente

Valerio Di Lucente is a designer, teacher and co-founder of Julia. Founded in London in 2008, the practice specialises in graphic and spatial design.

Notable commissions include the exhibition design and identity for the Italian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale and the art direction of the ICA in London (2012–2017). Di Lucente currently acts as art director of Publics, a curatorial agency in Helsinki. In 2020 he co-founded Veii, a publishing imprint devoted to visual culture.

Parallel to this, he has taught in the UK and abroad, including the RCA in London and IUAV in Venice. He is currently a professor at ISIA Urbino.

During my residency at HIAP, I’ll focus on research, slowness, unlearning and alternative publishing strategies. This time will be a moment for experimentation and reflection, where my activities and past experiences collide, blurring between teacher—student—publisher—designer to inform future approaches.
