Polina Choni was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. She is a visual artist with a background in fashion.
She got her master’s degree from Kyiv National University of Technology and Design in 2017. She works with the topics of environment, sustainability, and biodiversity. The sensory perception of material, texture and color plays an essential role in her practice.
Polina’s work has been exhibited in different art spaces, including her solo exhibition “Chemical Reaction” at Avangarden Gallery in Kyiv. She was a co-author of the “Identifying Kyiv” project in IZOLYATSIA, where she was rethinking urban symbols. Also, her art installations were presented during Ukrainian Fashion Week.
Nature is a source of inspiration for me, driving my exploration of biodiversity and the harmonious coexistence of humans with the environment. The main focus of my recent artworks is the ecological impact of the war in Ukraine. My current practice reflects my commitment to raising awareness about the environmental consequences and advocating for a more sustainable future.
Polina Choni is currently in-residence at AARK (Archipelago Art Residency in Korpo) for the period February-March and May-July 2023. Choni was in residence at Tahmelan Huvila during April 2023. Both of these residencies are realised in the context of the Ukraine Solidarity Residencies programme.
