Oscar Chan Yik Long

Oscar Chan Yik Long graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts of Hong Kong Baptist University in 2011. His practice focuses on personal experiences through different media including installation, drawing, painting most of which are site-specific. The works explore conditions of life, and how individuals associate themselves with others. The micro proposition of his work in recent years is fear, his approach is distinguished by it’s confessional quality. Past exhibitions include solo exhibition “In the mouth of madness” (Paris Internationale, Paris, 2019), group exhibitions “Futur, ancien, Fugitif ” (Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2019), “Divided We Stand” (Busan Biennale, Busan, 2018).

During my stay at HIAP, I am going to prepare two exhibitions, the first one is a group exhibition called “First International Festival of Manuports” at Kohta (Helsinki) in August. And the second one is my solo exhibition in Gallery EXIT (Hong Kong) in September. I am trying to develop my painting and drawing by ink in both exhibitions.

Oscar’s residency is realised as a collaboration between HIAP and Kohta art space.
