Olha Drozd

Olha Drozd is a multidisciplinary conceptual artist with over ten years of artistic practice. She was born in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, into a family whose history was marked by Stalinist repression and forced displacement from western Ukraine. In her project-based work, she focuses on themes of memory, loss, war, temporality, and resilience, combining personal reflection with social sensitivity and creating space for dialogue, empathy, and the rethinking of experience.

During my residency I want to approach the archipelago as a living collaborator. I will work with field recordings, collected textures, visual notes, and short texts to archive its sounds, surfaces, smells, light, and atmosphere. I am interested in combining documentary attention with conceptual openness, allowing the place itself to shape the process. In a time of global uncertainty, I want to create a sensory archive of this fragile environment. The final form of the work will emerge only through direct encounter with the site.

Olha Drozd’s residency at AARK is realised in the context of the Ukraine Solidarity Residencies Programme. The current partners of the programme are AARK, Art Centre Salmela, Fairres, Goethe-Institut Finnland, HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme, Nelimarkka Museum, Pro Artibus, The Finnish Darkroom Association, The Finnish Illustration Association Kuvittajat, Vantaa Artist Association, and Värtsilä Art House Residency. The continuation of the programme is possible due to the support of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and Nordic Culture Point. This residency is supported by Vantaa Artist Association, and the Ukraine Solidarity Residencies Programme.
