Mia Hamari

Mia Hamari lives by a river, in the forest, in Simo. Surrounded by nature, flowing rivers and sunlight, or lack of it, the environment she lives in not only influences her mind but also shapes the work at any given time. The season, sun, wind, rain and snow all leave their own marks on wood. Ideas for characters come from past lives, dreams and the subconscious. Hamari adds natural materials to wooden figures, like hair, eyelashes, parts of accidentally killed animals.

Mia Hamari graduated from Sculpture Department of The Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2004. She has taken part in many gallery and museum exhibitions in Finland and elsewhere.
