Mattia Pajè
Mattia Pajè (Melzo, 1991) is a visual artist whose practice explores how truths are produced and circulated. His recent research examines the narrative structures and seductive mechanisms found in pseudohistories, pseudosciences, alternative medicine, and conspiracy theories.
Working across drawing, sculpture, installation, and multimedia, he develops site-specific projects grounded in research and direct engagement with specific contexts.
His work has been presented in various exhibitions, residencies, and institutional settings. He was among the selected artists for the Nuovo Forno del Pane residency at MAMbo, Bologna (2020–21), and for the Jan Van Eyck Academy residency program in Maastricht (2025).
For the HIAP residency, I plan to investigate how conspiracy theories emerge, circulate, and take cultural form, starting from the theory that “Finland doesn’t exist.” I want to understand how such narratives can originate in intimate contexts and later develop into collective belief systems shaped by emotion, imagination, and social dynamics. My plan is to conduct field research in Helsinki, meeting scholars who work on conspiracy theories, post-truth, and digital cultures. I will translate this research material into a series of drawings that map the internal logic and complexity of these narratives, resulting in a non-linear visual outcome.
