Mary Conlon

Mary Conlon is a curator based in Ireland. She holds degrees from UCD and IADT, and is currently completing a practice-led PhD in Curatorial Studies at the Technological University of the Shannon, on Consistency, Context and Curatorial Practice. Mary is the founder and Artistic Director of Ormston House, a cultural resource centre in the heart of Limerick city. She recently negotiated the purchase and long-term lease of the historic property. She is an elected representative on the local government’s Strategic Policy Committee for community and culture, and on the Executive Committee of the European network of cultural centres, Trans Europe Halles.

During the residency, I look forward to meeting with local artists and collectives in Helsinki, and to visiting self-organised and grassroots organisations embedded in communities of place and interest. I will keep in mind current research strands at Ormston House for potential cooperations, in particular our multi-year projects, The Feminist Supermarket, The Museum of Mythological Water Beasts, R&R Programme, and The Sustainability Plan. I will also take advantage of being based in the unique location of Suomenlinna for time to reflect and write.

Mary Conlon’s residency is realised in context of HICP – Helsinki International Curatorial Programme, a collaboration between Frame Contemporary Art Finland and HIAP
