Maria Litovka
Maria Litovka is an artist who works with themes of corporeality and recollection through photography, installation, performance, and collage. For her, art is a space where the most intimate, nonverbal imprints of experience take form, even before they become conscious or make their first attempts to manifest through words.
I plan to work on my new vision of project Calm Sleep, using cyanotype as the main technique. I want to capture the feeling of safety when all loved ones are sleeping together in one calm place, hearing their quiet breathing and not being afraid of losing each other to war. This work will reflect sleep as a time without anxiety, especially the absence of air-raid fear, and a moment when time feels slower and unchanged. This work is important to me because it reflects a desire to hold onto fragile moments of peace for as long as possible.
Maria Litovka’s residency at AARK is realised in the context of the Ukraine Solidarity Residencies Programme. The current partners of the programme are AARK, Art Centre Salmela, Fairres, Goethe-Institut Finnland, HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme, Nelimarkka Museum, Pro Artibus, The Finnish Darkroom Association, The Finnish Illustration Association Kuvittajat, Vantaa Artist Association, and Värtsilä Art House Residency. The continuation of the programme is possible due to the support of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and Nordic Culture Point.
