Lucas Selezio de Souza

Lucas Selezio de Souza is a visual artist working across textile and installation. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Universitat Politècnica de València and has also pursued studies in Art History at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. His practice explores the notion of displacement to think about the historical boundaries built upon reality and what remains in the frictions between encountered territories. He is interested in the use of metalanguage and in reclaiming the narrative traditions of textiles, investigating their ties to systems of power and their potential to challenge dominant discourses surrounding globalized capitalism.

Textiles were made to move and have historically reconfigured spaces of power wherever they went. During my residency at HIAP, I will combine research in museum collections with the creation of an installation featuring sculptures and tapestries made using embroidery and appliqué techniques. I am interested in developing a practice set in a liminal territory as a space of friction, hybridization and transformation.
