Krišjānis Elviks
Krišjānis Elviks is a scenographer and interdisciplinary artist from Latvia. He is a graduate of the scenography department(2019) and interdisciplinary art program MA POST(2023) in the Art Academy of Latvia.
Working across scenography, installation, performance, and text, his practice explores the relationship between body and space. At the core of his practice is the “thinking in space” approach, a method that merges spatial sensitivity with conceptual and socio-political inquiry.
He has made numerous solo shows. His works have been exhibited in such institutions as Latvian National Museum of Art(2022,2024) and the Contemporary Art Museum Zagreb(2024).
During the Learning Materials residency, I plan to explore how large-scale installations can exist without traditional materials. Building on my scenographic background and work with second-hand textiles, I aim to experiment with sustainable and immaterial approaches to installation-making, investigating biomaterials and material legacies in collaboration with local organisations. I will research ecological practices related to the Baltic Sea region and test ways of creating temporary, circular, and collaborative installations. My goal is to develop new methodologies I can later share through workshops for scenography and costume design students.
