Kateryna Yehorova

Kateryna Yehorova was born in Odesa Ukraine in 1991. She has a background in Design, gradiúating from Odesa Art College in 2010 and Graphics, graduating from Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in 2016. The main artistic method inherent in Kateryna’s works is magical realism. The expressive author’s technique forms a recognizable style. The works combine realistic plots with allegorical images, where the starting point is the artist’s own perception of the environment. She works mainly with gouache on paper and printing techniques.

I always work with the local context. The place inspires and encourages reflection, which are embodied in my work. That is, certain paintings can only be created in a specific place. I am in awe of Finland and the beauty that surrounds me here, but the situation in my home country affects me personally and gives the plots of my paintings a bit of a melancholic mood. In my work, I share with the viewer the feelings that I experience. For me, it is important not just to recreate what I have seen, but to create a special atmosphere of wonder. The period in residence has become very eventful for me and I will be happy to continue my Finnish series.
