Jaume Ferrete

A good manifesto blocks conversation.
(Ekaterina Degot, Serpentine Gallery Manifesto Marathon 2008)

Jaume Ferrete’s work is, primarily, about questions of desire and experience: he “wants to do it for the sake of doing it”. During the process his projects can also turn into questions of ethics or morality: what ought one to do (not only as an artist, but as a person, even a man, in this context, to what end, etc.)? And, subsequently, into a question of method: how to do it? These stages of desire, experience, morality/ ethics and method are, in and of themselves, the themes of his artistic practice. This is combined with a reflection on contextual values as well as factors of time, systems and knowledge as paths of approach. Formally Ferrete gravitates towards language, both written and spoken, sound and situations, events or performances.

Ferrete studied arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Barcelona, Spain. He has exhibited at the Museum Marés for the Trans-Art festival, Convent de Sant Agustí, and Caixaforum (Barcelona). He is a collaborator in the Music Technology Group of Pompeu Fabra University, where he coordinates and conducts projects including Sons de Barcelona and Freesound. He has also acted as a representative of MTG · Sons de Barcelona · Freesound at various conferences and related events, incl. Jornadas sobre Paisatge Sonor at the Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona and the scenic arts festival Scenofest, Prague.

The residency is organised as part of the annual artists’ exchange programme between HIAP and Centre d’Art I Natura, Farrera, in collaboration with FRAME.
