Hampus Bergander

Hampus Bergander is an independent curator based in Sweden, working across the Nordic region and internationally. From 2020 to 2024, he was curator at Kin – Museum for Contemporary Art. In 2022–2023, he participated in CuratorLab at Konstfack University of the Arts, engaging with Autostrada Biennale in Kosovo. His practice is research-driven and context-responsive, exploring the intersections of performance, moving image, embodied knowledge, and spatial politics. Through exhibitions, performances, and discursive formats, he approaches curating as a process of negotiation and shared inquiry—emphasizing queer temporalities, collaborative methods, and speculative approaches to reconstruct and reimagine social and spatial relations.

During the HIAP residency, I will continue developing Various Breakages of the Finlandia Hall (working title), a research-based project with artists Ona Julija Lukas Steponaitytė, Ssi Saarinen, Iida Jonsson, and composer Alexander Iezzi. Grounded in critical heritage studies and performative architecture, it contemplates heritage preservation and the tensions between maintaining cultural memory and material decay. Exploring sculptural fragments, sound, and moving image as active elements, the project responds to the recent renovations of Finlandia Hall. The residency also supports writing on curatorial strategies that address the fragility of cultural monuments and architectural legacy.
