Evelyn Simons

Evelyn Simons (b.1989, BE) is a curator, writer and creative consultant based in Brussels. Her practice operates on the intersection between site-specific art, transdisciplinary collaboration and discursive activities. She’s facilitates artistic experiment by working at the crossroads between art, nightlife, music, architecture, performance and fashion.

She curated exhibitions in Luxemburg, Germany, France, Greece and Belgium; produced two short films; and has worked out development strategies for artistic organisations. From 2018 till 2023, she led the art programme at Horst Arts & Music. She holds an MA in Art History (Ghent University) and a Postgraduate in Curatorial Studies (KASK Ghent).

During my residency period, I want to explore the cultural fabric of Helsinki by organising studio visits and delving into the city’s rich public art collection. With a focus on site-specificity, cross-disciplinary approaches and public commissions, I am open to engage in discussions and exchanges with affiliated artists, curators, researchers and other cultural workers.

I also wish to make use of the residency as a spacetime to continue working on my novel, which is a satirical fictionalised autobiography, set in the dystopian reality that is the art world.

Evelyn Simons’s residency is realised in the context of HICP – Helsinki International Curatorial Programme, a collaboration between Frame Contemporary Art Finland and HIAP.
