Assem Attoun
Assem Attoun is a farmer, artist, and designer based in Jerusalem. His artistic practice encompasses video, installation, and art design, as well as experimental and conceptual methodologies. His work investigates alternative modes of production and artistic language, with a particular focus on interaction, collaboration, and the relationship between the body, materiality, social systems, and designed environments.
He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A) and a Master of Design (M.Des) and currently works as a lecturer in art and design between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, Palestine.
During my residency at HIAP, I will continue my research on the objectification of the body and how systems, everyday life, and design participate in shaping it into a “useful” object. I am interested in how productivity and control influence bodily behavior and in raising questions around intimacy and the memory of materials in the encounter between bodies and objects. My practice is grounded in production as a method of thinking and experimentation, where making becomes a form of inquiry. I approach the unknown as an essential part of the research process, opening new possibilities rather than limiting them.
