Temple Bar Gallery + Studios
HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme and Temple Bar Gallery + Studios invites Finnish and Finland based Visual Artists to apply for a 2 month residency between March – April 2026 in Dublin, Ireland.
TBG+S is a contemporary art gallery and artist studio complex located in Dublin city centre and the Temple Bar cultural quarter. Founded in 1983, the building houses thirty artist studios for professional visual artists working in a variety of media. Exhibitions are presented regularly and represent a cross-section of contemporary Irish and international visual arts practice.
The residency offers the opportunity to engage with a vibrant community of artists, and to present their practice in the framework of TBG+S’s programme of public events – such as studio presentations, talks, screenings or mini exhibitions in the studio space.
Since the partnership began in 2007, TBG+S and HIAP have supported over twenty artists and curators from Ireland and Finland. The exchange programme is supported by the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland.
Residency Conditions
- The residency is free of charge — TBG+S does not charge a fee to the artists for accommodation and studio space.
- The artist fee and production stipend is €3000.
- The travel stipend is €1000

Therefore, we welcome applications from practicing Visual Artists that are representative of the diversity of global society, including, but not limited to any of the characteristics outlined.
Accessibility
Accessibility information for TBG+S’s public spaces is available here.

You do not have to declare your access requirements in advance of making the application and there will be further opportunity to share this following selection.

Selection Criteria
The selection will be made by a jury consisting of HIAP, TBG+S and Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland representatives. The jury will evaluate the applications based on the following criteria:
- Motivation: does the applicant make a strong argument as to why they want to undertake the residency?
- Relevance: would the residency have a potentially meaningful impact on the local art scene?
- Topicality: does the focus of the proposal resonate well with topical issues?
- Diversity: does the applicant consider diversity within their practice and / or how would they contribute to the diversity of the residency programme in terms of practice and lived experience?
Quality of applications will be assessed across multiple areas including relevancy, originality and distinctiveness, rigour, presentation, vision and impactfulness.
The final selection will be made based on the highest scoring applicants against the above criteria, and balance across the TBG+S programme.
Due to the volume of applications, individual feedback cannot be provided. However we will endeavour to summarise the key jury discussion points and share with all who applied.
A note on the use of AI in the applications:
As a principle, the use of AI in development of applications is not an issue and we recognise how important AI is as an access and inclusion tool. Unfortunately, we have found in recent open calls that AI is being used to generate the content of applications (as opposed to supporting the writing and editing process), and this has often resulted in proposals which lack voice and authenticity.
We reference this not to demonise the use of AI in application processes, but to encourage applicants who are using AI to consider how they can maintain their own unique voice within their proposals and avoid weakening their individuality.
