Eskus – HIAP Summer Residency

Apply for Eskus´and HIAP´s Summer Residency!

ESKUS – Performance Center and HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme invite individual artists or groups of professional artists working within performance, live art or contemporary theatre. The residency is intended for artists and groups from Finland, Scandinavia, Baltic countries and Russia.

The two and four week residencies have the possibility of accommodation in HIAP Villa Eläintarha, which is a wooden villa in Kallio district, Helsinki, next to Töölönlahti Bay. Please note that in the case of an artist duo, collective or group, the accommodation may need to be shared among the members.  For further information on the accommodation please see www.hiap.fi/villa.

The residence artists have at their disposal an 80m2 studio in Eskus. Studios have a flex parquet and basic audio equipment. The studios cannot be blacked out and they are not soundproofed.  You can check photos of the studios and other premises on the Eskus website (unfortunately the page is only in Finnish, click the text “Katso kuvia vuokrattavista tiloista!”)

Residency artists are expected to open up their work to colleagues and audience, for example through a work demonstration, workshop or artist talk. We strive to foster fruitful encounters between Eskus residency artists and local artists. As part of the residency there will be a welcoming event (at the end of June) and Summer party (at the end of July), where this can be included. Our residency host will be helping with the facilitation.

Residency Period: *Dates have been updated*

June 28th – July 30th. Artists can apply to stay for two or four weeks. The two week period will start either on 28th of June or 14th of July.

The deadline for the applications is March 19th (11:59 pm, GMT +2).

The Residency offers an accommodation and studio space free of charge. The residency artists finance their own travel expenses.

Selections

The main criteria for the selection are the quality of the professional practice and the motivation statement.

Decisions are made by a group of curators: Eskus board members choreographer Anna Maria Häkkinen and curator-producer Elisa Itkonen, and supporting curators from HIAP (tba).

Applicants will be informed of the decisions in early April.

The Corona Pandemic may affect the realization.
