Helsinki – Dublin Residency Exchange 2020

Helsinki-Dublin Residency Exchange offers residencies for Finnish and Finland-based artists in Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin and for Irish artists in HIAP, Helsinki. Since the partnership began in 2007, TBG+S and HIAP have supported over twenty artists and curators from Ireland and Finland. The exchange programme is co-organised by HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and Finnish Institute in London.

TBG+S is a contemporary art gallery and artists’ studios complex located in Dublin city centre and the Temple Bar cultural quarter. Founded in 1983, the building houses thirty artists’ studios for professional visual artists working in a variety of media. Temporary exhibitions are presented regularly and represent a cross section of contemporary Irish and international visual arts practice.

The aim of the exchange is to provide participating artists with time, space, and support for their creative work and to foster dialogue, collaboration and international networking opportunities.

In 2020, one artist from Finland will be selected for a two-month residency at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin. TBG+S offers accommodation and a studio space for the artist and an opportunity to present their practise in the framework of TBG+S’ programme of public events, such as studio presentations, talks, screenings or mini exhibitions in the studio space. The total budget for travel and living costs is 2300 €. The budget for materials and other direct production costs is 700 €.

The residency is planned to take place in October-November 2020. However, depending on the official restrictions against the spread of COVID-19 that will be in effect during this period, it may become necessary to adjust the dates or to postpone the residency to 2021. The exact residency period will be confirmed in the coming months.

The deadline for the applications is Friday, May 22, 2020, (11:59 pm, GMT +2). The decisions will be announced by Monday, June 8, 2020.

The applications will be reviewed by representatives of HIAP and Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.
