Ross Manning: Wrong Notes
HIAP Gallery Augusta

Please join us on Friday 27 January from 5 pm for “Wrong Notes,” a live performance by Ross Manning. The performance starts at 5:40pm (take 4pm or 5:20pm ferry from Kauppatori). A warm welcome to everyone!

Wrong Notes is a live presentation in three parts with the separate segments demonstrating an abstract narrative arc from the primitive to the structured, and from the ambient to the intensified. Within this structure the inherent abilities and freedoms afforded by the instrument building practice allude to new possibilities in both the sculptural as well as performative musical capabilities of the artists’ practice.

Ross Manning is a sound and new media artist based in Brisbane, Australia. His work is known for its engagement with technologies and ephemeral installations of movement, optics and sound. During his time in Helsinki, Ross has been building his own sound producing creations, performing the developing works and researching into the archives of local sound makers such as Erkki Kurenniemi. His interests focuses on the idiosyncratic, self governance and individuals freedom of instrument building practise.

Ross’ works have been featured at international platforms such as this years 11th Shanghai Biennale “Why Not Ask Again,” Curated by the Raqs Media Collective, China. ‘Colourshift’ LOOP Alternative Space, South Korea, 2015 and the 2014 Biennale of Sydney. In 2016 Ross received new commissions form the Len Lye Centre / Govett-Brewster Gallery, New Zealand and a co-commission from Performance Space and Carriageworks for the Liveworks Festival, Sydney. In 2015 new commissions from the Gallery of Modern Art (Brisbane), the Institute of Modern Art (Brisbane), and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul, South Korea). Ross has been represented by Milani Gallery since 2009.
