Meet the Curator: Bora Hong and Sung woo Kim

Wednesday, 12 November, 11 am–1 pm, Frame Visual Art Finland

Join us for a Meet the Curator event with Bora Hong and Sung woo Kim from Korea on Wednesday, 12 November, 11 am–1 pm at Frame Visual Art Finland. Let’s gather for a informal round-table discussion over brunch. Bora and Sung woo will share a few thoughts about their respective work, opening up the discussion for further talk about the Korean art scene: what are the interesting things happening there at this moment, why are the Koreans interested in Finnish art and artists.

Bora Hong is the Director of Gallery FACTORY (Seoul), the publisher of independent art magazine as well as a visiting lecturer. Hong has been involved in numerous art and design exhibitions as well as in public art projects, working as a commissioner or Art Director. After graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she worked for the Department of Cultural Affairs Chicago as a Program Coordinator for cultural exchange and art education programs.

Sung woo Kim, who works as an independent curator, studied MFA Curating at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and also has an educational background in Museum Management from Korea. Kim’s curatorial research explores nuances between individual memory and history floating in certain space and time. Through exploration, he traces power relations in historicising certain stories of the past, posing questions in between “non-official” and “official” stories and documents.

The event is organised by HIAP in collaboration with Frame Visual Art Finland.

Bora Hong and Sung woo Kim’s residency is supported by Arts Council Korea.
