HIAP Talkoot & Pikkujoulut – Come Along!

Join us for a cozy afternoon of talkoot*, glögi and art as we gather at HIAP Suomenlinna to celebrate the season together. Whether you’re in the mood to lend a hand, catch up with us, or just enjoy the atmosphere, you’re warmly invited!

Date: 18.12.2025

Time: 12-18

Address: Suomenlinna B28, 00190 Helsinki

Come hang out and see Nora Sayyad’s pop-up exhibition “Visible Palestine (Näkyvä Palestiina)” at HIAP Suomenlinna. The exhibition is part of UrbanApa’s miniresidency programme.

Nora Sayyad’s Miniresidency public event is a pop-up photo exhibition titled Visible Palestine, based on her ongoing work. The future exhibition is envisioned in three parts. Portraits feature intimate images that tell the stories of Palestinians and their families, showing how everyday life and resistance coexist. These are supported by interviews collected with Iris Pajunen within the Solidarity Movements workgroup, which also gathers visual documentation of activism and communities that have supported Palestine in Finland and abroad over the decades. The Protests –section aims to bring together street photography from multiple photographers, highlighting the diversity of communal action and grassroots solidarity. It’s a project where photography and collective effort meet.

All are welcome to join for the whole afternoon or just a short while. There will be some snacks and glögi and plenty of seasonal spirit around!

* Talkoot is a Finnish tradition of communal volunteering, where friends, neighbours or colleagues come together to get something done and share food/snacks and time together. Pikkujoulut, or “little Christmas”, are festive pre-Christmas gatherings with colleagues or friends to celebrate the end of the year with snacks, drinks and relaxed time together.

Talkoot – What to Expect

If you’re able to get involved in the Talkoot, there are a few different ways you can help out:

1- Helping to paint the Community Room: this is the big task of the day. It might be a bit messy, so if you’re ready and willing make sure to bring some clothes you dont mind getting dirty.

2- Moving things: you might be asked to help move some furniture and other bigger items.

3- Building things: for those with wood working and carpentry skills, there are a few items we’re hoping to build for the Community Room (shelves etc).

4- Library organising and cataloguing: we have hundreds of books which are not yet in the HIAP Library and need cataloguing.

There is something that everyone can get involved with and you don’t have to help out for long – any time you can offer is very appreciated.
