Frame Espresso: Collectivity Beyond Global North. With Renée Mboya, Asep Topan and Christopher Wessels

Tuesday 6 November 2018, 10 am–12 noon
Sinne (Iso-Roobertinkatu 16, Helsinki)

Collectivity Beyond Global North will open with presentations by Renée Mboya and Asep Topan on collective artistic organizations and practices in Nairobi and Jakarta. Writer, curator and filmmaker Renée Mboya will speak about the evolution of Weaving Kenya, a feminist collective formed in 2012 as a staging ground for women’s collaborative and cooperative creativity. Curator Asep Topan, who is currently on a HICP residency in Helsinki, will briefly present historical aspects of collectivity in an Indonesian art context, from the independence struggle to the post-dictatorship period.

These presentations will be followed by a commentary by cinematographer, cultural worker and artist Christopher Wessels, who will reflect on the Museum of Impossible Forms and current practice of the Miracle Workers Collective.
