AAVE – Alternative Audiovisual Event

AAVE (in English: ghost) will be back haunting the streets of Helsinki 11.–14.4.2013. The main venue will be the cultural center Malmitalo (Ala-Malmin tori 1). This year the primary attention and focus is on 16mm and 35mm film performances and also celebrating half a century of video art in a special screening. Presented are new and interesting works, including Hate, an experimental stereoscopic film by Sami van Ingen. The main festival guest will be the film performer Bruce McClure (US). The Japanese art cinema delicacies programme Oishii consists of three feature films. Aa special programme of one-shot works i also presented.

The side events include a lecture performance by Laura Minici Zotti (IT), the director of Museo del Precinema in Padua. She will give a lecture performance by reconstructing a Laterna Magica show about Charles Dickens travel to Italy. Irina Spicaka (LV) has curated the workshop series Creative Coding for Live Visuals, organized in collaboration with transdisciplinary platform Pixelache. The workshop series will culminate with an AV performance by the participants in Bar Sandro on Saturday 13.4.

The mission is to reveal the richness of moving image by including various methods and formats in the festival programme. The vision is to challenge the boundaries of conventional festivals by bringing out the different mediums of moving image from the early techniques to the most recent digital image formats.
