Nora Sayyad
Nora Sayyad (b. 1991) is a Finnish-Palestinian photographer, artist, and visual reporter whose experimental lens pushes the boundaries of documentary and fictional storytelling. Born in Sweden and based in Helsinki, she weaves culture, identity, and intersectionality into bold narratives that challenge perception and center empathy. Holding a Master’s degree from Aalto University, Sayyad’s work spans human rights, wellbeing, and the complex liminal spaces of lived experience.
During residency, I will deepen my ongoing project on the diaspora and histories of solidarity movements in Finland. I will continue working with photography and archival materials, allowing these fragments to gradually form the foundation for an exhibition. Collaborating with a writer, I aim to develop a visual language where imagery, protest documentation, and historical memory coexist. The residency provides to deepen research, refine the work’s visual structure, and explore how art can function as a collective, participatory platform. In a time when genocide persists and Palestinian existence is threatened, I see art and imagery as vital archival acts.
