Ida Koitila (b.1983, Sweden)

Ida Koitila creates her sculptures and installations by putting together carefully selected ready-made objects. By mixing visual langagues she creates a platform for critical and creative thinking. This epicentre of free association leads into a multilayered narrative which oscillates between the ordinary and the exceptional. Between the private and the public, the small and the large.

In her work One for all, All for one a classical cremation urn is reconstructed as a large sized box. By its exceptional shape it states that the individual is no longer private. What we seem to witness is a strangely arranged funeral. Or are we looking at a well organized mass grave?

The title got known through The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas and stands for comradeship and unconditional solidarity for a common cause. What is the value and relevance of such a parole nowadays?

Ida Koitila graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2011. She currently works and lives in Berlin.
