Irene Sorrentino

Irene Sorrentino (b. 1983)is an Italian literary translator. She lives and works among the hills of Central Italy. Sorrentino has lived for almost eight years in Finland and, in 2008, she received her BA in Italian Philology from the University of Helsinki. She received her MA from the Department on Modern Languages at the University of Helsinki in 2010. Sorrentino works with noted Italian publishers, both translating and judging literary texts.

Machine Gambling in Las Vegas, Princeton University Press, 2012 (Sossella Editore, 2015), Roope Lipasti, Viikinkisolmu, WSOY, 2014 (Feltrinelli Kids).

Sorrentino is currently working on Minna Lindgren’s Twilight Grove trilogy, a satirical mystery saga about a group of 90-something spirited ladies living in a Helsinki retirement home, that should be published in Italy by Marsilio. During her residency in Helsinki she plans to edit the translation of the trilogy’s second book, meet with the author and conduct research. Moreover she will attend a workshop on literary translation from Finnish to Italian at the University of Helsinki.

Irene Sorrentino’s residency is organised in the context of FILI (Finnish Literature Exchange) by the Finnish Literary Society in collaboration with HIAP.
