Hannaleena Hauru

Hannaleena Hauru was born in 1983, Hyvinkää, Finland. Hauru has graduated from two Finnish Film Schools: ELO Helsinki and TTVO Tampere, yet she considers that her two real film schools have been the NISI MASA European Network of Young Cinema and the KINO Movement. Short films by Hauru have been making waves in several international film festivals, such as Berlinale Generations, Oberhausen, Cannes Critics’ week, Uppsala and Tampere, with their precise, poetic atmosphere, humour and inner world of the characters. Hauru has been working as a screenwriter, director, producer, editor, teacher, and as a coordinator and tutor of international film workshops and trainings. In addition she’s the founder of The International Random Film Festival and Helsinki Film Academy. Thick Lashes of Lauri Mäntyvaara


During HIAP residency, Hauru will be working on her first feature film, Thick Lashes of Lauri Mäntyvaara. The film is situated in the Finnish archipelago. In addition to writing the screenplay, she will be building the visual mood and style for the film, inspired by the environment of Suomenlinna, fellow HIAP artists and the people of the islands.
