Alex Young (b. 1982)

Alex Young is a research based artist, designer, and curator whose practice explores the motivating factors and end results - and the subsequent potential for disconnection between the two - in the construction of the built environment. Young’s work interrogates sites of social, architectural, and technological change by employing critical and experimental historiography in analysing the often contradictory ideologies that fuel the future present. His projects have been presented in solo exhibitions at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center (Buffalo); Incident Report Viewing Station (Hudson); Flux Factory (New York); and in group programs including Beyond/In Western New York Biennial and University at Buffalo Art Gallery (both Buffalo, NY); Brooklyn International Performance Art Festival and Conflux Festival (New York, NY), Spanien 19C (Aarhus, DK), and forthcoming ACC Galerie (Weimar, DE), amongst others. He has an MFA in Visual Studies from the University of Buffalo, SUNY and presently resides in San Diego, CA.

In Helsinki, Alex Young will be working in collaboration with Angela Washko on a new project SERFnet, exploring the role of language in cultivating today’s networked peasantry.
